Big Sur, CA (Feb 19, 2009)

This was part field trip (nature study is educational isn't it? LOL) and part therapy. DH was on leave this week due to his company's forced shutdown so to mend our aching hearts (over pulling out of escrow), we hopped into the car and made a beeline to Big Sur, about 100 miles south of San Jose.

Here are some shots of the foaming ocean and breathtakingly, rugged coastline:

Here's one of Big Sur's famed bridges (Rocky Creek Bridge built in 1932) and a fossil hunter in training.

And here's a Wikipedia entry if you want to know more about this geological gem.

The weather was gloriously sunny (is it seriously winter right now?). We'd planned to spend the night but many of the lodging facilities we called weren't convenient for families with 6-year-olds and not many had rooms waiting for spur-of-the-moment travelers like us anyway so we decided to head back home after a peaceful, awe-inspiring and therapeutical two hours.

  1. Sorry to hear of your house woes, Suji. Your lovely photos of Big Sur bring back memories--we visited there while our "stuff" was on the truck moving back East. We took a week and went down to Monterey (stayed in Doris Day's dog-friendly hotel) and did the tourist thing. Stopped in Big Sur for lunch on the way down or back--restaraunt on a precipice with gorgeous views!
