Here are poetry anthologies and collections and single-poet books he's loved. As well as titles we hope to be reading soon:
COLLECTIONS
A Family of Poems by Caroline Kennedy: LOL, gosh I still remember trying to schedule this when I was following April's wonderful Mosaic ancient history curriculum. We've covered so much more ground and enjoyably too, not scheduling it.
The Tree That Time Built: A Celebration of Nature, Science, and Imagination: a relatively new addition to our collection, it features many sweet, nature-themed poems.
OGDEN NASH
My boy's current favorite poet...and I keep getting to listen to recitations from a very reluctant-to-read-aloud kid too so this tells you how much he loves the man.
still researching others...will update this list once we've found ones we like :)
JACK PRELUTSKY
One of my favorite poets too :) Will always be grateful to Sheila for clueing us in on this intelligent and funny poet.
The Dragons Are Singing Tonight and so many more.
SHEL SILVERSTEIN
He usually spends some of our waiting-to-pick-up-Dad trips (my hubby works close to a Borders outlet) reading a Silverstein book:
Please suggest books you or your child has loved too :)
Thanks for this list, Suji. My son loves humorous poetry and he's a big fan of Shel Silverstein. We'll have to try some Ogden Nash.
ReplyDeleteGlad it's helpful Michelle. Still have lots of funny poets to discover so if you have suggestions I'd love to hear them :)
ReplyDeleteHi Suji,
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming over to my space and commenting on the other day. Strangely I never thought I would be in any danger when growing up, so quite carelessly took risks I think.. I acquired more fear after I became responsible for someone else in my life..like kids, lol!
Your ds sounds a lot like mine! Archenia loves giggle and funny poems, and he is easily amused by things. I am more delighted to see him laugh at things than the things he is reading and laughing at :)). i am not sure if you have checked these...apologies if these are repetitive or not to your ds interest levels...It has been a while, so not remembering the age levels and such.
Also, ahem, we are not sure of the books we have picked and laughed reading are high quality lit...we just pick books randomly and some turned out to be better than others....hopefully some are enjoyable to you too?

It would not allow the long message, so here is part 2. I am not even sure if these are something repetitive...because these are not the unusual finds, as you would have naturally found these too...
