At times like this, we really feel the distance between us and family. Kiddo so rarely (almost never) gets to celebrate special events with his grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. But we are lucky to know a lovely family living right next door. So, we invited our dear friends and neighbors, D and D, over for dinner. We had Malaysian rice noodles (bee hoon goreng), grilled chicken (in a Thai-style marinade), a Fresh Express Asian salad (with orange sesame dressing) and cake (orange with chocolate frosting and Lu's le petit ecolier biscuits on top). Martinelli's sparkling apple cranberry cider all around (kiddo's preferred beverage of the moment).
It was awesome catching up with D and D. They are an older couple and like the sort of 'old school' stuff we do and they really get kiddo's quirks and interests too and enjoy engaging him in entertaining conversations. It's always fun to listen to their verbal repartee and witty jokes. Kiddo got a chance to play Linus and Lucy and the Pink Panther to a different audience, for a change. As always, we finished dinner and dessert with a round of Apples to Apples

It was an eventful day...Dad took the day off, we had lunch outside (his favorite lamb biryani) and swimming for about an hour in the evening before D and D arrived. Hopefully, it'll be a birthday he will remember with fond memories forever. He's sleeping tight now.
