Wonderful Wednesdays

Reading while waiting for math class to start.
"It's such a great day today, Mom!"

At first I thought he was referring to the weather (it IS a lovely day today). But no. He was referring to having his favorite classes on today. Math and music. His two favorite teachers. It's a lovely coincidence that we have scheduled to meet both on Wednesdays, smack in the middle of the week.

And right now, back from classes, he's happily writing out his story to submit to our charter school education specialist tomorrow. Did I say happily writing? Yes, I did. A kid once reluctant to write is finally enjoying it. All it took was for me to relax about not using writing curriculum regularly. Can you believe that? Other moms have gently suggested to me that it can happen and I was afraid to believe them. But now I do.

A great day today, Mom.

I love hearing him say it. It makes me all gooey and happy inside. Helps me remember, whenever I second guess myself, that we have many successful days. It just doesn't always feel that way because we don't always say it out loud.  We have fun and laugh and tease and do a lot of goofy things and have some really good teachers (both online and in real life). But we don't always say, "what a great day it is!". Maybe we should do that more often.

  1. I love those days when the kid says, "It's a great day!" Today was one of those days for us too even though we didn't do anything out of the ordinary. I love all the optimism and wonder if homeschooling makes them such exuberant learners. I even gave K a test prep material just to see her reaction and she couldn't stop talking about how interesting the stories were. Seriously, what is it about them?Tonight, K was begging for Life of Fred and wouldn't go to sleep. It's good to know the fire does not die down even as kids grow older....as evidenced by your marvelous Kiddo!
