Randomly Recent

It has been so long...apologies dear readers! I have often thought about writing an update but was too lazy. :P

I don't have a lot to report. Kiddo won second place for his recital of Pyramus and Thisbe. It was such a fun experience for him and I am hoping to include memorizing passages/ poetry as a yearly elocution exercise somehow since he enjoys it so much.

Other than this, we were ill with the flu and had little energy to achieve much other than what kiddo usually does (which is math and more math!). We did catch up with reading and made one interesting change to our homeschooling journey as explained below.

Books we enjoyed this past month:
Kiddo discovered a love of Dickens and John Connolly's young adult novels. And I'm absolutely in love with Louise Penny's Armand Gamache series (thanks P!).

We filed the PSA!
We left our charter school this week and are finally independent homeschoolers! I considered this carefully for a long time but always stopped myself due to the stipend we receive from the charter. But with DH saying okay and with the wonderful support from other homeschooling moms I know (thanks ladies!), I just couldn't wait anymore.

It feels like a burden has been lifted. To be honest, the charter school was not heavy handed with us. We have always been up to date with records and kiddo is generally well rounded enough for them to not demand that we fill one gap or another. Gradually though, I'd been feeling stifled and impatient with various requirements. Handing in samples not knowing what's happening to them. Doing things just to check off arbitrary boxes. And not knowing if kiddo will be able to learn for the love of learning when he is in high school...I feel so much more in control now. And it feels so good. :)

In the spirit of the coming's to new beginnings!

  1. Congrats! I dream about being free of the charter but as of now, the requirements are relatively low. But I know the day will come when it won't be worth it. It must be freeing!

    1. It is M! :) Thanks! And thanks too for dropping by!

  2. Congratulations on being more free and in control of the direction of your homeschool! It must have been quite a pain to have to submit all those reports, even though you've always kept detailed accounts of what you've done. I'm looking forward to reading more about what you do for kiddo's high school. :-)

Hope you're all feeling better now!

  3. Congrats on being freeeeeee :)

  4. Congrats on the new step! How exciting. :)

  5. Congratulations on being an independent homeschooler!! Doesn't it feel liberating to be free?

I hope you and Kiddo are feeling better. We have been sick too. I am hoping we get back on schedule soon. Take care. :)

  6. Thank you everyone! I am pretty excited for sure! :) Many hugs to all!
