Seventh Birthday Photos

The Day Before (Sept 30)

Had cake with friends at his co-op class.

Read his birthday card.

Spoke to his grandparents in Kuala Lumpur.

Looked extremely happy and surprised when he guessed what his birthday gift was.

Ogled the gift for quite a while after unwrapping it
(the full set of A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket...
you might find it at Borders for $49.99 like I did).
If you look real close you might catch a glimpse of my reflection on the fireplace screen ;)

On His Birthday

Read Book 1 of The Series for the third time.

Had his beloved instant noodles for lunch...

...followed by a more than usually generous helping of ice cream and Pocky sticks.

Had my only recently mastered Poori bread recipe with
chicken tikka for dinner, flanked by yummy green gram lentils
prepared by my friend, B.

  3. HA! I LOVE that picture of him guessing his present. Great shot.

    Happy Birthday Seven Year Old!

You eat like we do: noodles and weird breads and things. Although Max prefers that I call them NODDLES, after a particularly hysterical typo we saw on a packet of chow mein noddles. Noddles. What's not to like about a noddle?

  4. LOL! Gosh, why does that remind me of doddles and poddles?

  5. I wish our kids were similar ages. It would have been so much fun comparing notes as we homeschooled. K read the first book of A Series of Unfortunate Events and loved it and also met Lemony Snicket but I was worried that it was too dark for a 7 year old. I'm guessing Kiddo was okay with it? I heard the series get darker with the later books. K didn't seem bothered by the first book but I wasn't sure if she would be with future ones. I probably should read them first.

    1. Oh gosh, these photos bring back memories. :) In fact we just had cake (2 days early) for his 11th birthday today (9/29/13). The series is a little dark for a 7yo but kiddo isn't sensitive to things like that. He used to be upset by sad themes but the SoUE is eccentric enough for him to look past the darkness. He really adored the series. Read the books over and over for something like 6 or 7 times. If K is sensitive in general then I do suggest pre-reading. HTH!

  6. Thanks! I just read your reply. I think I'm more sensitive than she is, to be honest. After reading the first book, I can see that it wasn't terribly frightening or anything. It was more my imagination after K gave me the summary that was frightening!
